The following is a working directory of organisations actively engaged in combatting human trafficking in Laos.


United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Lao PDR Country Office
UNICEF supports national legislation in order to establish a child friendly environment within the justice system. UNICEF also supports the training of judges, prosecutors, and police for better implementation of child protection. Additionally, UNICEF is also supporting the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare in its process of establishing child protection and assistance committees.

United Nations Action for Cooperation Against Trafficking in Persons (UN – ACT), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Lao PDR 
UN-ACT Lao PDR’s works with the Coordinated in Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (COMMIT Process) from Lao PDR along with the other five governments in the Mekong Region to combat in human trafficking.

United Nations Office of Drug and Crime (UNODC) Lao PDR Office
UNODC Lao PDR Office works with Laos government in order to improve the legal and technical ability to prevent human trafficking. Areas of improvement include; law enforcement, border detection, investigation, and prosecution. UNODC coordinates with the Lao government as well as within source communities.

Save the Children Laos
Save the Children Laos works on various projects, one, “Strengthening Child Protection Systems to Keep Children Safe”, aims to ensure that children are protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence through appropriate preventative and remedial interventions. Save the Children offers training at the provincial, district, and village level for Child Protection and Assistance Network Members (CPNs) in order to develop proper mechanisms for child protection.  Additionally, Save the Children raises awareness with the help of youth-led groups.

World Vision Foundation Laos
World Vision Laos works on a project, “Protected and Resilient Children”, which protects children from abuse, neglect, exploitation and other forms of violence. World Vision works with government authorities and community leaders to raise awareness on unsafe migration, domestic violence, and trafficking, in order to support safe migration.

International Organization for Migration (IOM) Laos
IOM Laos focuses on “Migration Management”, this project involves collaboration with the Lao government in order to eliminate human smuggling and trafficking by promoting safe migration. IOM Laos also provides assistance and protection for victims. At the district level, the Laos office works to raise awareness to prevent cases of trafficking. IOM strives to expose the vulnerable situations of migration among young women and children. IOM Laos also works directly with victims who have been repatriated from abroad.

Child Fund Australia in Laos
Child Fund is working to bring community-led, sustainable change in the areas of education, healthcare, water and sanitation, child and youth participation, and livelihoods. Currently their projects have been focused in protecting children in urban areas.

Australia-Asia Program to Combat Trafficking in Persons (AAPTIP) Lao PDR
AAPTIP offers training for law enforcement personal in 16 offices in Laos. AAPTIP works to improve the understanding of gender responses, sensitive material, and guidelines for victim identification. AAPTIP Laos creates mechanisms that develop the ability for the Lao government and police officers to work together with Thai counterparts such as AHTD and DSI. AAPTIP is working (with other organizations) to allow for the use of recorded testimony to help expedite the repatriation process, especially of young children, to decrease their time spent abroad.

Village Focus International (VFI) Lao PDR
VFI aims to empower communities and leaders in Laos by focusing on youth empowerment.  Youth Empowerment project offer a chance for Lao children to improve their leadership skills and provides scholarships for youth to go to school and university. The VFI also raises awareness of labour and sex trafficking for the youth.
