United Nations Action for Cooperation Against Trafficking in Persons (UN – ACT), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Myanmar

International Organization for Migration (IOM) Yangon Office
IOM Myanmar cooperates with Myanmar’s Central Body for Suppression of Trafficking in Persons, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Social Welfare, the Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation, and UN agencies and NGOs. They work closely with Myanmar’s Department of Social Welfare in order to run “Myanmar-Thai Case Management Meetings on the Return and Reintegration of Victims of Trafficking”.
Additionally, IOM Myanmar facilitates quarterly cross-border visits of Myanmar caseworkers to provide assistance and support to victims of human trafficking in Thai shelters. IOM actively participated in the development of “Bilateral Standard Operating Procedures for Management of Cases and the Repatriation and Reintegration of Victims of Trafficking” between Myanmar and Thailand, and is currently working with members of the Human Trafficking Working Group in Myanmar to develop “National Standard Operating Procedures for Victim Protection”.

Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement
The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement provides a two-week program of “rehabilitation” for most victims of trafficking returning from abroad. Temporary shelters for repatriated trafficking victims are provided at eight vocational training centres. Eventually, victims are sent back to their home communities or to designated organizations for those children who are orphans.

World Vision Myanmar
World Vision in Myanmar works on prevention by supporting awareness training in vulnerable communities. To do so, World Vision Myanmar set up a community volunteer system to further assess the risk of trafficking within the community. They have also established a youth club to help promote awareness of human trafficking at the provincial level.
